Welcome to the blog portion of my portfolio page! I hope to keep you up to date on all my projects in progress.

A Whole New World
Instructional design is a whole new world for this STEM-trained pharmacist. I’m learning to be creative, appreciate design elements, and use a whole different skillset I haven’t touched much since my high school days. You are welcome along on my adventure!

Gift-Giving Tips
Background:
The assignment was to design an audio clip that would provide instruction on a topic appealing to many people. I served as my own subject matter expert for this project. I am an expert gift-giver, so I decided to incorporate some of my personal experience into a short lesson for others. The topic is easy to convey and should prove insightful to many.
Results:
This project taught me a lot about the audio-recording process and how to create a short clip that would still provide educational benefit. I was able to incorporate my own expertise and flair to create a short lesson that serves the learner and hopefully entertains them in the process. Although my recording and editing skills still need to grow, I am happy with the product.
Solution Developed:
I began this project brainstorming some ideas of a topic I could cover in the 2-5-minute timeframe required by the assignment. I have never produced instructional audio that would stand on its own. I needed to create an appealing topic that would draw in the attention of the listener and create appeal. I am a big fan of the 2003 movie Elf, and I know it is widely popular. I used a scene from the movie that would paint the picture of gift giving for the audience. After gaining the attention of the listener, I used a basic informative essay format covering 3 main points.
This was my first foray into audio recording and editing. I used my closet as a make-shift sound booth, and I recorded my audio through my computer on the audacity software. I learned some of the basic functions of the software to edit my recording, then exported it as an MP3 file. I had not realized how easy it was to follow that process, but I also can see how much more detailed one can get in the editing process than my skills currently allow.

Instructional Graphics Project
Title: How to Give a Vaccination
Client: Personal Project
Made with: Canva, iPhone
Time in Development: 8 hours
Collaborators: Solo-Project
Background
I was brainstorming projects, and I realized with flu-shot season coming up in the retail pharmacy world, my company really did not have any set training review for vaccinators. I felt that designing a graphic to provide vaccinators a reminder would help everyone feel more prepared. I am learning about producing effective graphics for instructional design, and I felt this provided a short and sweet yet cohesive product.
Solution Developed
Being a pharmacist and a certified vaccinator for the past 7 years, I know a lot about the immunization process. Especially in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic, I have spent a great deal of time providing vaccinations. I was able to serve as my own subject matter expert in the design process. I knew the major steps, so I wanted to illustrated and explain them in an understandable manner.
I wanted to create a process guide and some illustrations to go with it. Some photographs provided were from vaccinating my dad. Some photos were stock images in Canva. I think it gives the learner a good idea of what to expect when they go to give a vaccination
Results
I think this product could be used in most major pharmacies with some tweaking to their specific protocols. I did not get photos of every step in my process as it was not practical to do so for my workflow. If a company were to adopt these materials, I would want to take pictures specific to their workflow to allow better understanding for their vaccinators. I learned more about Canva and iPhone cameras in this process, and I should be able to carry that into my future projects.

Back Squat Instructional Video
Development Time
This project was completed in February of 2023. It took about 12 hours to develop.
Client
Bellevue University
- iPhone Camera 50%
- Vimeo 50%
Background:
The assignment was to design an instructional video. I used my expertise in weightlifting to create a video about proper back squat form. This will provide instruction to many athletes looking to improve their skills.
Results:
This project taught me a lot about recording video and attempting to edit it. I still have a long way to go, but I was able to change some elements of the raw videos. Vimeo was very user-friendly.
Solution Developed:
I thought through the essential steps of doing a back squat, including the basics of an air squat, the underlying movement. The steps are well illustrated with video. It was a bit uncomfortable to be the subject of the video as it is always awkward to see yourself in video.
I created the video on my iPhone. I imported it into Vimeo and added text and background music. I feel that there are ample examples of me performing squats to give learners a good idea of what needs to be done.
